Kathmandu, 8 March, 2015 : The 105th International Women Day is being observed by organizing different programmes in the country today.

 

A rally has been organized in the capital by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, and National Women’s Commission (NWC), including three dozens other non-government organizations with the participation of activists, stakeholders and students

The rally started from Bhrikutimandap went to different parts of the town including Bhadrakali Temple, Sahid Gate, Sundhara, and New Road and converged into a corner assembly at Basantapur.

 

Speaking at the corner assembly, Secretary at the Ministry Dhan Bahadur Tamang said  the Women’s Day is a moment for women to raise their voices, and appealed to coordinate with men and organizations concerned to jointly struggle to end violence against women.

 

Similarly, Chairperson of the NWC Seikh Chandtara said women in Nepal have been deprived of their rights adding they need to struggle for their rights that until their rights were ensured in the new constitution

 

During the programme, the Ministry of Women announced prizes and awards to some organizations working for women’s empowerment. The Mahila Chetana, Gauri Shanker Gramin Mahila Bikash, Mahila Jagaran, Dharmalmbi Mahila and Bishwajyoti Mahila Cooperatives have been awarded with cash prize. The prize carries a purse of Rs 100,000 each.

 

Meanwhile, the women’s organizations close to various political parties have organized rallies on the same occasion here today.
