17 girls graduates in EmpowHER 2018


Kathmandu, September 19, 2018: The Graduation Ceremony of EmpowHER 2018 by Ujyalo Foundation was successfully held on 15 August 2018 at Ageno, the Hestia, Dhobighat. After the sixteen weeks of intense workshop on leadership, gender equality, idea incubation, project planning and pitching respective idea into service impact project, each of the 17 young changemakers were pinned a badge on the left by her fellow sister. The badge pinning ceremony was  commenced by the Executive Director of Ujyalo Foundation, representing solidarity to empowering more women to emerge as leaders in their life and also a become part of the sisterhood of the past change makers with the same objective and vision. Agma Malakar, Sumi Limbu and Tsering Dolma Tamang are the winners of this years EmpowHER program who won Nrs. 50,000 for their project ideas.

The Executive Director of Hotel Annapurna, Shreejana Rana, presented the keynote speech whereas the co-lead of EmpowHER at Ujyalo Foundation, Chhiring Yangjum Sherpa, shared the journey of EmpowHER 2018. The winner of EmpowHER 2018,  Agma Malakar shared her experiences on behalf of the cohort.

MyHealth app by Agma, is an electronic journal to store patient’s health information which aims to serve as a centralised application for both hospitals and users. Similarly, Sumi’s project ‘Sakhi’ aims to create awareness on menstruation among 30 young girls and boys of age 10-15 years at a time in 8 different schools through awareness campaigns, comic book and by forming school clubs where girls and boys can candidly speak on the subject as well as seeking information on it.Mentioning about  the project of Tsering , Happy Learning Center is a center for children living with cancer in a hospital ward, where 26 children can be accomodated. The center aims to provide a space for the children to learn, to read and write through formal and informal methods as well as use the center for play.
