Khotang, December 14, 2016: District Education Office Khotang is all set to develop as many as 30 schools as ‘model schools’.

The office has prepared programmes to bring reforms in primary level education in the schools in the first phase. District Education Officer Gyan Mani Nepal said the schools were selected on the basis of the combined commitment of the guardians, school management committee, and teachers regarding reforms.

Faktang-based Bal Kanya Secondary School, Chisapani-based Chisapani Secondary School, Kahule-based Laxmi School, Khotang Bazaar-based Bhagawati Dinanath Secondary School, and Saraswoti Secondary School in Kulagaun are among those selected for reforms. Other schools also will be selected in the future, said DEO Nepal.

“The teachers of the selected schools will be provided necessary training before April. The concept of model school was developed to improve the quality of education in public schools, considering their declining reputation,” said DEO Nepal.

The office had called on the schools to drop their application with proposals and action plans to reform their school. As many as 47 schools had dropped their proposals from 16 to 25 November.

The District Education Office has pledged to extend help to incorporate training in effective pedagogy, manage reference books, facilitate teachers in making their classes effective, and appeal for budget to build libraries.
