4 women set out on bike tour to promote girls’ education

Kathmandu, June 7, 2016: Four Indian women who are on a bike tour of 10 nations to promote girl child education were flagged off by Indian Ambassador to Nepal  Ranjit Rae from the premises of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu on Monday.

As a part of their campaign “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” the four bikers set out on a bike journey of 10 countries-Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.

Noting that male children enjoy preferential treatment over their female counterparts in some South Asian countries, Ambassador Rae said it is important to change such attitude and give girls equal and fair opportunities in all spheres of society.

The leader of the tour, Dr Sarika Meheta, a psychologist by profession,  said that in course of their journey, they will be meeting people from different walks of life and talk to them about the importance of educating girls.
