Kathmandu, May 4, 2017: More than 44,000 candidates are vying for 13,556 posts at a total of 283 local units the first phase local elections set for May 14.

The most interesting thing is about the election is that apart from political party candidates, thousands of independents have also filed their nominations. Since the election is taking place after a gap of 19 years, many youths are running as independent candidates.

The Election Commission has said the final name list of the candidates of the first round of the local polls in province number 3, 4 and 6 would be published on Friday, May 5.

The Commission also stated that it would allocate the election symbols to the candidates on May 5, today.

The first round of local level elections is going to be held on May 14.
