5-day training on Women Empowerment at Devchuli

CHITWAN: Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal, (JCYCN), along with KANALLAN conducted a Women empowerment project in Devchuli Municipality, for implementing GoN international commitment on SDGs and with the objective to achieve SDG Goal No. 5 and No. 10.

The project has been done in continuation with what was started back in the municipality in 2018. This year the major activity that has been conducted is Training of Trainers (TOT), to empower girls and to prevent sexual and gender-based violence at the community level.

The workshop was conducted from May 28 to June 1 in Chitwan with a participation of 35 adolescent girls and female teachers. These participants will now be generating awareness among the other members of Devchuli locality and other neighboring localities about women’s rights. Not only that, they will also be playing the role of an advocate to talk to different concerned agencies about implementing programs and policies related to women empowerment.

Aarati Bishokarma, one of the participants stated, “Many girls from our community are still unaware about menstrual hygiene, violence against girls and how to deal with such problems. This training has strengthened the skill and knowledge of the girl participants such that we will now be able to use our skills to create an empowering society at the local level.”

Giving the closing remarks, JCYCN President Mr. Tillotam Poudel expressed tbat looking at the participants, he is now quite hopeful that Devchuli is in safe hands. He also shared the last year progress stating how one of the peer educators from last year has been awarded as Asian Girls Ambassador.
