5 Parties Urge President To Initiate New Constitution Drafting Process As Per The Spirit Of Interim Constitution

Kathmandu, June 13, 2015: In order to initiate the constitution drafting process as per the spirit of the preamble, directive principle and norms and values of the Interim Constitution-2063 BS, today five Political parties have urged the President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.

Further the parties urged the the President Yadav to initiate to promulgate a new constitution through constituent assembly (CA) itself.The Terai Madhes Democratic chair Mahanta Thakur, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Nepal chair Upendra Yadav, Federal Socialist Party chair Ashok Rai, Sadbhawana Party chair Rajendra Mahato and Terai Madhes Sadbhawana Party, Nepal leader Ram Naresh Ray had reached the President Residence Shital Niwas today for the same.

As it was proposed to form for drafting the constitution without federalism the partes have stated in the request letter submitted to the President Yadav that to be formed federal commission would not address the issues of identity based federalism with democratic norms. Similarly,the five-party, who submitted the request letter to the President, also had submitted a memorandum to Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang protesting the consensus on Friday.

The act of curtailing the people’s rights and working areas of the Constituent Assembly would not be acceptable to them at any cost, states the request letter. The proposal was against the spirit of the Interim Constitution Article No 82.

Likewise, the 16-point agreement signed by the four-party on June 8, was against the spirit of preamble, directive principle and constitutional provision of the Interim Constitution and it was the direct violation of it, the five-party said.

Co-Chairman of the Sadbhawana Party, Laxman Lal Karna, quoting the President during the occasion said expressed the view that the new constitution should be promulgated through consensus, collaboration and unity among all. Further, the President stated that he would hold discussions with other political parties regarding the request letter, Karna said.
