Bhaktapur, January 29, 2018: Bhaktapur municipality has initiated wheelchair-friendly system at Siddhapokhari pond in Dudhpati, Bhaktapur.

Siddhapokhari is the first cultural heritage of Bhaktapur that has initiated wheelchair-friendly arrangement for differently able people.  Sunil Prajapati, the Mayor of Bhaktapur municipality informed, “We are planning to set up wheelchair-friendly infrastructure at major heritage sites, temples and public places in near future.”

As per the suggestion of National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal, the municipality organized wheelchair ramp for the differently abled people to get to the pond area with comfort. “We have been talking to other municipalities about making the public places and structures disabled-friendly,” said Tika Dahal, vice-president of National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal. He also added that the deficiency of cooperation and understanding among the people have made the situation challenging for differently abled people at many communal places.

The differently abled people from Bhaktapur have expressed their gratefulness on the initiation taken by the municipality to help them.
