Kathmandu, February 8, 2018: Ujyalo Foundation has successfully concluded the final ideas pitching session of EmpowHER Junior on February 3, 2018, at Xaviers Academy, Kathmandu. The preliminary interview took place in the morning at Alpas Cafe, Lazimpat.
The changemakers delivered their final pitch in front of 60 people that included advising committee members, the mentors, parents, media partners and guests from various organizations.
Ten weeks of entrepreneurship, leadership training and activities were followed by preliminary interviews of the changemakers. Each changemaker had five minutes of interview with each advising committee members. They also had group interviews in groups of four.
Yajaswi Rai, Program Lead of EmpowHER and EmpowHER Junior quoted, “The journey was just ups and ups and we are really proud of the changemakers for working so hard to reach this stage. We have changemakers from Sindhupalchowk who arrive on Fridays just for the session on Saturday. We also have a changemaker from Biratnagar, who changed her school to Kathmandu for the duration of the program. This is why they inspire us so much to do what we do.”
Amuda Mishra, Founder and Executive Director of Ujyalo Foundation presented the final remark for the concluding event “Thank you to everyone for being here. Thank you to all our changemakers, parents, schools, and everyone else for supporting the program. Thank you also to our Board of Directors, sponsors, and the Ujyalo Foundation team without which this would not have been possible.”
The winners from the pitching will also be announced during the graduation ceremony. Three changemakers will each win NRs. 15,000 to implement their ideas in the coming 6 months.
The program officially launched on November 18, 2017 brought together 12 young girls from the ages 12 to 16. The changemakers went through 10 intense sessions where they learned about gender equality, opportunity optimization, health rights, leadership development and various other ways to improve on their project ideas. In order to guide these changemakers throughout the journey, a mentor had been assigned. A wide range of personals from diverse backgrounds and expertise facilitated the session.
EmpowHER Junior is an idea incubation and leadership development program run in an effort to capacitate young women leaders and entrepreneurs by Ujyalo Foundation. Ujyalo Foundation is a young woman led nonprofit organization established in 2014 which works for the advancement of young women and their ideas in Nepal.
