Baitadi, Oct 1: As many as 70 household at Shankarpur VDC-1, 2, and 9 in Baitadi district have been shrouded in darkness as a local micro hydro electricity (hydel) project has come to grinding halt for two months.
The 9-kilo watt Surnaya Hydel project has been shut down due to the problems seen in machine and in lack of budget to repair it, shared a local Deepak Awasthi.
Another local, Hikmat Kunwar said that the committee which had been operating Hydel in 1998, could not collect the loan, resulting in its shutdown.
The Hydel was constructed at a total cost of Rs 1.4 million with the assistance from the Rural Energy Programme and the fund raised from the locals.
