May 19, 2015: The April 25 earthquake and aftershocks have destroyed 7,995 houses in the district. Among these, highest number of houses- 585- were flattened at Chaulakharkha VDC due to the quake, said the District Disaster Rescue Committee.
Chief District Officer Jhankanath Dhakal said that the houses receiving partial damages has crossed 8,364. Although no human casualty was reported, huge amount of physical property was lost in the quake.He added that adequate tents were not supplied in the district.
4,702 families losing houses have been provided tents so far and the remaining families are still bound to stay under the open sky.
The Committee said that the data on property damages was likely to go up, since the detailed information has not come from different VDCs.Similarly, more than 250 school buildings and numbers of temples and monasteries have been destroyed by the quake. Most of the people in the district are still staying outside homes due to the fear of earthquake.
