8 killed in Nuwakot bus accident

Kathmandu, Oct 24: At least eight people were killed when a passenger bus heading towards Dhunchne, the district headquarters of Rasuwa, from the capital met with an accident at Belkot of Nuwakot today. They died on the spot.

So far 52 injured passengers have been rescued and some of them have been brought to the capital while some others have been admitted to the Bidur-based Nuwakot District Hospital for treatment, Deputy Superintendent of Police Arun Poudel said.

Identities of the deceased have not been yet ascertained. The ill-fated bus with the registration number plate Ba 2 Kha 2266 veered off the road near a cliff at Belkot-6 and fell around 150 metres down from the Pasanglhamu Highway. Congested and damaged roadway is believed to be the reason for the accident, Chief District Officer Koshhari Niraula said.

Three foreigners have also been killed in the accident. The bus belongs to the Pasang Lhamu Bus Entrepreneurs Association. A helicopter has also been mobilized for the rescue of the injured people, CDO Niraula said.
