Foreign tourists met a kind woman while on a stopover in the Icelandic city of Búðardalur, and they wanted to send her a letter.
The only problem? They didn’t know her name … or her address.
But with some ingenuity, a decent memory and the help of a dedicated postal carrier, the letter made it to its destination. The senders drew a map to the woman’s home, showing several roads, a fjord, an arrow and a red dot where she lives.
The envelope reads:
Country: Iceland
City: Búðardalur
Name: a horse farm with an Icelandic/Danish couple and three kids and a lot of sheep!
There’s also a note in the corner that says: “the Danish woman works in a supermarket in Búðardalur” to help the mail carrier identify the recipient.
According to the local newspaper Skessuhorn (assuming the translation is relatively correct), the tourists said, “this inscription on the envelope would be to prove that Iceland was the coolest country on the earth and that anything was possible in Iceland.”
Of course the envelope did indeed reach its intended recipient, and the newspaper concluded what we’ve all secretly known: “And thus it is confirmed, everything is possible in Iceland.”
