A Man with a Great Vision: Mr. Mahabir Pun

Mr. Mahabir Pun is a renowned social entrepreneur, a teacher and an activist. He is well known for his extensive work in applying wireless technologies to develop remote areas of the Himalayas. He is the Chairman of the National Innovation Centre. He is known as “Wireless Man” in Nepal.

Mr. Pun is a humanitarian and his work is an inspiration to the youths; many youths to return their own country and serve it for its development.

Mr. Pun was selected as Ashoka Fellow in 2002 by the Ashoka Foundation, USA which is the global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs. He was given the “Overall Social Innovations Award” by the Global Ideas Bank in 2004; the Institute for Social Inventions. The Ramon Magsaysay Foundation of the Philippines awarded him the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award” in 2007 for his initiative to introduce internet and e-commerce in rural areas of Myagdi district.

Similarly, Pun was felicitated with an honorary degree as “Doctor of Humane Letters” for his outstanding work for his country, Nepal by the University of Nebraska. Similarly, the Internet Society awarded the “Jonathan B. Postel Service Award” in 2014.
