New York, Sept 26: The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has commended Nepali people on the adoption of the new constitution- a milestone in the peace process.

The Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General has said Secretary-General Ban understands the decision taken by Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushil Koirala to cancel his visit to the United Nations to focus on the domestic political situation and to facilitate dialogue. The Secretary-General looks forward to meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest to Nepal and the United Nations.

The UN Secretary-General underlined that democratic transitions are complex and long-term processes, giving emphasis to the importance of non-violence and respect for peaceful protest.
