Siraha, May 15: As many as 12 homosexuals and third gender are found affected by HIV/AIDS.
Laxmeshwor Yadav, programme coordinator of Lahan chapter of the Blue Diamond Society, claimed among 3,600 homosexuals, 12 are found infected with the HIV. The Society has conducted a study here recently.
There has been a problem in their treatment as they are unable to open up in society due to fear of stigma, said Yadav. He said the people are found infected when they have sexual intercourse without using condom and other contraceptive devices, stressing on the need of organizing awareness programmes.
According to District Health Office, Siraha, as many as 52 people have been found transmitted with the disease and majority of them are of the age between 18-40 years.
