Washington, April 16, 2015: Senior officials, of defense ministry, from the United States and South Korea organized the annual Korea-U.S defense talk meeting.

United States was represented by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense David Helvey whereas Yoo Jeh-seung, South Korea’s Deputy Defense Minister represented Korea.

The talks focused the ways to bolster joint deterrence capabilities against missile and nuclear threats from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and measures to follow up on last year’s agreement to postpone the transfer of wartime operational control over South Korean forces from Washington to Seoul, as per a statement of the U.S. Defense Department.

The two nations also made progress on executing plans for the conditions-based approach to the development of wartime operational control and reached consensus on a new framework for evolution.

Moreover, both the nations discussed cooperation on regional and global issues, opposing weapons of mass destruction and proliferation, and space and cyber initiatives.
