Mustang, November 23, 2015: Farmers in Mustang district have made a good transaction of Rs 290 million from the apple sale this season

The apple production this season has gone down by seven per cent in comparison to the last in Mustang – considered to be the pocket area for apple yields. Farmers, however, have managed to generate attractive income from the apple sale.

According to the District Agriculture Development Office, 3,600 metric tons of apples out of total produce 4,750 metric tons were sold out this year. The farmers had sold out apple in bulk to traders on contract basis at the rate of Rs 80 per kg.

Famers across the district generated a mammoth income over Rs 288 million from the apple sale, shared Planning Officer at Mustang District Agriculture Office, Tapta Bahadur Gurung.
He said the apple output this season went down due to heavy snowfall and excessive cold at the outset of the season. According to the district agriculture office data, the production of apple last year was 5,100 metric tons.

The apple farming stretched over 997 hectares land of the district. In addition to Marfa, Jomsom, Tukuche, Kagbeni and Muktinath area is considered to be the pocket zone for apple produce.
“Farmers of the districts have been attracted towards apple farming as it has become a good source of income of late”, said Planning Officer Gurung.
