Apples worth Rs 20 m sold in Manang

Pokhara,14 Nov 2014: Apples worth Rs 20 million has been sold in Manang district this year.

Around 630 metric tonnes of apples were produced in the district this year whereas 730 metric tonnes were produced last year, said Hari Bahadur KC, officer at the Agriculture Development Office.

Though the production of the apples slightly decreased this year due to unfavorable monsoon, farmers got appropriate price and earned more in comparison to the last year, KC added. The apples produced in the district are exported to Pokhara and Kathmandu, it is learnt.

The apples are planted in 11 VDCs out of 13 VDCs in the district.

Nar and Phu VDCs do not have favourable soil and climatic condition for apple plantation, it is stated.

A total of 180 hectares land is under apple plantation in the district. Saplings of the apples are being grown in the district. Before this the apple saplings used to be brought from Jumla and other district.
