Kathmandu, 23 Oct 2014: The sexual/gender minorities, homosexuals and third genders, are found at high risk of HIV/AIDS infection.

As per the recent statistics of the National Centre for AIDS and STD Control, around 200,000 homosexuals and third genders are at risk of HIV infection.

According to the Blue Diamond Society, there are around 500,000 homosexuals and third genders in the country.

At a programme organised by the Society here on Wednesday, expert Mahesh Sharma said although the rate of HIV infection on sex workers has decreased to 2 percent from 70, it has increased on homosexuals and third genders.

Acting Director of the Society, Manisha Dhakal, said that HIV infected homosexuals and third genders have been the victim of double discrimination.

On the occasion, Dr Sushil Shakya of Bir Hospital said training should be provided to doctors to make the treatment of homosexuals and third genders easier.

He said homosexuals and third genders have been facing difficulties in getting easy treatment as they hide their identity due to social and family background.
