Parsa, 12th February, 2015: Journalist Shyam Banjara has been honoured with this year’s Late Gopal Giri Memorial Active Journalism Award. The prize is founded in memory of journalist Giri, who was shot dead by the then Maoist rebels in January 2004.
FNJ General Secretary Ujir Magar presented the award established by Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Parsa Chapter, to journalist Banjara amid a programme here today. The prize carries a purse of Rs 25,000.
Speaking at the programme FNJ General Secretary Magar urged the government to take action against the murderer of the journalists who were killed in various time in the past. He said the FNJ would provide possible support to the recently formed Truth and Reconciliation Commission and coordinate with it to recommend action against the guilty.
Various personalities including senior journalists, leaders of the civil society, political parties, and local representatives of security bodies, industrialists and business entrepreneurs, among others also spoke at the programme.
