Bhaktapur,25 Feb 2015:  The 27th District Council of the District Development Committee Bhaktapur on Thursday made public Rs 3 billion, 527.2 million worth of District Development Planning and Programme for the fiscal year 2072/73 BS.

Local Development Officer Pashupatibabu Puri made public the budget of the development programmes in which the Council allocated Rs 264.9 million for DDC Bhaktapur, Rs 1 billion and 105.5 million for the district’s six municipalities and Rs 2 billion, 162.2 million for other subjects including the VDCs operational works.

Inaugurating the district council, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Development Prakashman Singh said Nepali Congress had already taken an institutional decision to draft the constitution on basis of agreement with the agitating opposition parties.

On the occasion, DPM Singh said the government’s attention had also been drawn to holding local elections and added that it was carrying out necessary preparations for the same.

He said the development of physical infrastructure had remained on hold as the government was engaged primarily in democratic constitution writing process. DPM Singh also underscored the need for people to stir up more vigour in the local level for Bhaktapur’s socio-economic and physical development.

In the programme, Industry Minister Mahesh Basnet termed Bhaktapur as a fertile land for agricultural and industrial development and appealed to the locals to make the best out of it.

Constituent Assembly member Rameshwor Prasad Dhungel, Manmohan Bhattarai, Prem Suwal, Kedar Sanjel, Anuradha Thapa Magar among others stressed for developing the district as a tourist destination.
