Birgunj, June 14, 2016: Students of a local higher secondary school in Birgunj have launched an awareness campaign against the dowry system.

Students of the Birgunj Commerce Campus made graffiti against the social malpractice on the walls of Nepal Telecom’s Parsa Office today.

The graffiti features a woman on one side of the scale and other valuables as dowry at the other side.

According to the participants, they started the campaign as the number of deaths in the name of dowry was on the rise and they wanted to bring an end to it.

SP Raju Babu Shrestha of the Parsa District Police Office appreciated the initiative taken by the young students. He expressed his hope that it would be a positive step to spread awareness against the dowry system.
