Pachthar, Aug. 29:Passengers travelling through the road division in Panchthar have been enduring the worst part of the incessant rain that activated various landslides which damaged the road.

It is learnt that the blocked road created a few issues to the locals. The addition in the cost of the every day expended things, and more span to achieve their destination is among others.

Lamenting the concerned authority’s apathetic attitude towards the current state of the road, Narendra Basnet from Sarangdanda-4, said, “It’s been a while that no vehicles are running. It takes more than a week to reach Saptami from Ravi in the vehicles that gets stuck in the damaged road.”

The price of the edible items in the market of the Southern region of Panchthar like Sarangdanda, Ravi, Mauwa among others have also took off up.

Tikaram Khadka, a local, said, “The rice which would cost Rs. 55 per kg now costs Rs. 75. Similarly, the price of beaten rice, lentils, salt, sugar including other edibles has took off.”

While tractors alone have been running in the Raanke-Ravi road, other vehicles run until Pancham. Drivers have been said to have charged their passengers arbitrarily.

Bhakta Chauhan, one of the passengers, grieved, “Earlier we would pay Rs. 500 from Raanke to Saptami. We pay Rs. 700 now although there is no sufficient number of vehicles running.”

The roads here are left at lurch although the VDC annually allocates the budget for the maintenance of the road.

Locals from Sarangdanda, Ravi, Mauwa have to walk for six hours to reach Raanke. The Raanke-Ravi road is the only alternative road when Ravi-Damak, the usual route, is blocked during the rainy season.
