Employment generation with the 20 percent of the development budget

Kathmandu, October 1, 2018: Government is planning to allocate 20 percent of the development budget to generate employment activities against the perpetual increment of  the unemployment level in youths.

As per Gokarna Bista, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS), the ministry has already started working on the proposal and will soon be forwarding the final proposal to the Cabinet for its approval. He said,” Though we have planned to allocate 20 percent of the development budget for creating domestic jobs, the figure could rise as per the need that will be determined once the proposal is finalized.”

He further added,” The government is also planning to put a brake on the outflow of unskilled and semi-skilled workers, limiting the foreign employment opportunities to only skilled workforce.”

The representatives of the major political parties presented at the discussion programme of MoLESS, suggested the government to increase the domestic labour market and reduce Nepali workers seeking jobs abroad in order to increase the employment level in the country.

Likewise, the Finance Minister, Yubaraj Khatiwada informed that this fiscal year, the Prime Minister Employment Programme will be launched by providing  skills training for youths which offer on-the-job training and internship facilities for more than 100,000 youths in the country. The government will also be introducing policies to end overseas labour supply within the next five years.
