Dhangadhi, Dec 6,2014: The construction works of the much-awaited West Seti Hydroelectricity Project have not made notable progress so far.

Though different companies had registered their proposals for the construction of the project since 32 years till the date, they left before going into action.

A French hydropower development company, Sogreah, had presented its proposal to construct the hydropower project the first time some 33 years ago.

In addition to it, an Australian SMEC Hydropower Company had carried out the feasibility study and the environmental impact assessment but it also left before going into an action. The company quit the project saying that it could not get investment for the purpose.

Mohan Bhatta, who was an employee at the project, said that the implementation of the project has been delayed due to unclear policy of the government for distributing compensation of the land to the owners, whose land is acquired for the construction of the project.

Another reason behind the delay in the implementation of the project is the government’s apathy and failing to collect investment by investors, it is learnt.

Although the locals are united on the issue of implementation of the project, the project is under the shadow due to the dispute between Ministry of Energy and the Investment Board, said Dev Bahadur Od of Doti, the project affected area.

The proposed 750 MW-hydropower project is the largest hydroelectricity project of the country so far.
