Dhangadhi, Oct. 24: Local walnut traders of Baitadi district are busy selling walnuts here with the increasing fervor of Tihar festival. Mohan Prasad Joshi, a trader from Shrikot of Baitadi sold four quintals of walnut in five days in Dhangadhi.

He bought it Rs. 30,000 per quintal from the produced area and sold it in Dhangadhi for Rs. 400 per kg. Its sale is good as demand is high during Tihar time than other times, said Joshi, adding he has only one quintal remaining to be sold. Shrikot, Deulek, Hatairaj VDCs are famous for walnut production in Baitadi.The district produces more than 300 quintals of walnuts, said traders.

The walnut is sold in Dhangadhi, Mahendranagar, Attariya and other markets, said another trader of the village Tekraj Joshi. Locals have also started planting walnut trees as income from it is very good, say traders.Farmers are attracted to soft walnut than the harder one which can not be broken by teeth.
