CA DIALOGUE PANEL AGREES ON THE NAME HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Kathmandu, July 24: The Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee has forged consensus on the name of the lower house of parliament as the ‘House of Representatives’.

Similarly, it agreed on ‘providing voting rights to Nepali citizens reaching 18 years of age’ as agreed to by the Constitutional Committee under the first Constituent Assembly (CA).

The Constitutional Committee under the first CA has forged consensus on different 48 issues of the new constitution.

The meeting today discussed points from number 12 to 48 of the report. The CA members expressed their views on topics such as the numerical strength of each House, the kind of representation in the Upper House, the number of members in the Province Legislature or whether to have executive President and a unicameral legislature or not.

Agreement has also been reached to remove some of the points from the list of contentious issues to be settled while reaching consensus on state restructuring and the electoral system.
