Call for Applications: The Female Champions 2017

Do you believe in gender equality and social change? Do you think you have what it takes to be a Female Champion?

The Female Champions has called for applications from adolescent girls representing diverse cultural and social backgrounds – particularly from earthquake-affected districts. Selected Female Champions will be trained and empowered as social change agents. They will undergo intensive training on leadership and communication skills, with mentorship from local leaders and activists. Female Champions will subsequently be guided in developing and implementing their own social change project.

Last year, 50 Female Champions were trained and had the chance of implementing creative campaigns raising awareness on a series of gender issues. One of the participants, Neshma Tuladhar, is now working with Bookmandu, a non-profit organization which collects used books for earthquake affected schools. Her motto is “Learn, empower, grow, contribute, and begin again.”

“Through the Female Champions project, I realized that instead of seeking examples I should be one with utmost devotion and clear vision,” says Priya Sigdel, a former participant who was selected as the first Global Youth Peace Ambassador from Nepal. She is currently also the President of Hattihatti, an organization supporting marginalized women across Nepal.

The Female Champions this time opens the fellowship program application to the females all over Nepal, therefore creating an army of empowered females all over the country. The Female Champions modality allows the platform for empowerment and engagement to the potential female for the impact to be widespread in a National level.

The Female Champions is a fellowship designed to identify and empower the leading girls of the community so that they can be engaged in the future to advocate on the issue of SRHR and female empowerment; and includes systematic engagement programs, empowerment strategies, mentorship programs with role models and opinion leaders.

This concept is designed and implemented by We Inspire Nepal (WIN) in collaboration with UNESCO, Kathmandu.
