Call To Discuss Issues Of Climate Change In SAARC Summit

Kathmandu, Nov 26,2014: Stakeholders and experts have demanded that the issues of environmental degradation, climate change and other related aspects be discussed in the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit.

The 18th SAARC Summit is beginning in Kathmandu today.

At a programme on challenges of climate change in South Asia on Tuesday, the speakers said the SAARC Summit should discuss the issues pertaining to environment and climate change as the peoples of this region are also directly affected due to the climate change effects.

On the occasion, expert on environment law Dr Bijay Singh Sinjapati said that discussions on environment’s effects on human lives should be held.

Likewise, former dean of Institute of Engineering Dr Bharatraj Pahari, activist Rashmiraj Nepali and others also stressed for raising the issues in the SAARC Summit.

The major conclusions and recommendations of the programme would be submitted to the heads of states and governments of the SAARC member countries, the organizer said.
