Kathmandu, June 18, 2017: Nominations have been called for the Integrity Idol Nepal 2017, organized every year by Accountability Lab to recognize and honor the most honest civil servant in the nation.

The award aims to provide an outlet for a national conversation in positive terms about the change we would like to see, and the people we would like to see working in government organizations on our behalf. It also seeks to generate debate around the idea of integrity and demonstrate the importance of honesty and personal responsibility in the government officials.

This year, a four-member jury panel comprising former Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority Surya Nath Upadhyay, Former Secretary Jivan Prabha Lama, Bharat Bahadur Thapa from Transparency International Nepal, and former Science and Technology Minister Ganesh Bahadur Thapa will judge the nominated personalities.

After 7-stages of selection procedure, top 5 persons will be shortlisted for this year’s Integrity Idol Nepal. These finalists are then filmed and these episodes are shown on national television and played on the radio for a week, creating a national discussion offline and online. Citizens can vote for their favorites through SMS short-codes and through the website. The winner will be crowned in a national ceremony in the capital.

With the award, the organizers hope to inspire a new generation to be more effective public servants.

Integrity Idol, that began in Nepal in 2014, has already been spread to Liberia, Pakistan, Mali as well as it’s in the process of being spread to Indonesia, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Philippines and other nations.

The then District Education Officer of Panchthar, Gyan Mani Nepal was awarded the Integrity Idol Nepal in 2014. Similarly, in 2015, Chief District Officer of Gulmi, Mr. Pradeep Raj Kadel was declared the Integrity Idol. Likewise, Dor Bikram Shrees, a school teacher from Gulmi was honored as the Integrity Idol of the year in 2016.
