Kathmandu, December 22, 2017: Students of journalism who are aspiring to enroll in bachelor’s level have been re-invited by Department of Information to file their scholarship application. According to DOI, only few applicants had filed their applications when the announcement was made 21 days ago.

The scholarship will be provided on a merit basis to those who have passed their higher secondary (10+2) level or bachelor’s level first-year students pursuing journalism course under these seven different quotas – women, ethnic groups, Madhesi, Muslim, differently able people, Dalit and privileged group.

Prabin Katuwal, section officer at DOI, mentioned the applications for women, privileged group and Dalits had already been closed while the quotas of Madhesi, Muslim, ethnic group and differently able people had not been fulfilled.

“This is the first time that Department of Information has launched a scholarship program and it will be given continuity. Due to lack of information about the program, there has been some delay in receiving applications,” Katuwal informed.

“The deadline for submission of applications has been extended by seven days till December 26, 2017,” he said. The receiver of the scholarship will be provided an amount of Rs 25,000 for his/her education.

So far the DOI has received three applications under the women’s category whereas the Dalit and privileged group categories have each received a single application.
