Cambridge International Examinations opens new avenues for higher education

Kathmandu, April 22, 2016: Cambridge International Examinations prepares school students for life, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. Our programmes and qualifications set the global standard for international education. They are created by subject experts, rooted in academic rigour and reflect the latest educational research. They provide a strong platform for learners to progress from one stage to the next, and are well supported by teaching and learning resources.

Cambridge International Examinations carefully designs curricula to engage learners and give them solid foundations to achieve high levels of academic and personal attainment. Our approach is flexible, so schools can offer Cambridge at every stage of education or focus on specific stages. This means schools are free to build a unique curriculum which reflects their values. Our international qualifications are recognised by the world’s best universities and employers, giving students a wide range of options in their education and career.

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide.  We work in more than 100 countries and our 8,000 staff–including 2,000 teachers–work with thousands of professionals and policy makers and millions of young people every year by teaching English, sharing the arts and delivering education and society programmes. The Cambridge AS and A level qualification is delivered in Nepal through the British Council and through the independent centres.

Cambridge International

AS and A Level
Cambridge International AS and A Levels offer schools and students a tried and tested route to rewarding study and assessment. They are taught in over 2000 schools in 127 countries.

Typically for students aged 16 to 19 years who need advanced study to prepare for university and higher education, Cambridge International AS and A Levels develop a deep understanding of subjects, as well as independent learning and constructive thinking skills–abilities which universities value highly.

Cambridge International AS and A Levels offer complete flexibility. We offer more than 55 subjects and a range of assessment options so that schools can choose the study path that best suits their students’ needs. Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course and Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year. Schools have freedom to offer Cambridge International AS Levels as qualifications in their own right, or as part of a progression to Cambridge International A Level. Exam series in November and June cater to schools timetables and flexibility of timing–making sure every candidate can sit their paper at the right time regardless of the time zone where they live.

Opening doors to universities worldwide
We work closely with universities worldwide to make sure they understand Cambridge programmes and qualifications and reward Cambridge learners appropriately for their achievements. Every year thousands of learners use Cambridge International AS and A Level qualifications to gain places at leading universities worldwide, including the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

Cambridge International AS and A Level is accepted by over 500 US universities (and many more on application) and all UK universities. In places such as the US and Canada, good grades in carefully chosen Cambridge International A Level subjects can result in up to one full year of university course credit.

Excellent education is based on excellent teachers
A successful education develops the skills and abilities of each child.  Every child is different, and learns differently from other children, even those at a similar attainment level.  Only skilled teachers, attentive to the progress and difficulties of every child, and able to adapt their teaching plans and classroom practice, can deliver success.

We offer qualifications for teachers and trainers based on international best practices  to help develop teachers’ thinking and practice, and build the knowledge and skills they need to help students succeed. We also offer a comprehensive programme of training courses, as well as support materials to help teachers deliver Cambridge programmes effectively.

Ruchira Ghosh, Regional Director South Asia, Cambridge International Examinations said: “Every year, Cambridge learners in Nepal excel in their exams–receiving our Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards–and we recognise that Cambridge teachers play a large part in their success. Therefore, we place high importance on providing training and resources to help teachers conduct effective lessons as well as excel professionally. Our comprehensive professional development programme gives teachers delivering our programmes the best preparation to help their students do well.  We recognise that teaching is about developing the skills and abilities of every child, not just exam grades.”
