Baitadi, January 23, 2017:Â A campaign has been launched to rid Haat VDC of Baitadi off child marriage practices.
The Child Network, Girls’ Rank Group and Child Marriage Alleviation Committee will head the door-to-door programmes, interactions and social boycott of those involved in child marriage practices as part of the campaign, Haat Health Post In-charge, Binod Kumar Kunwar said.
Kunwar said the child marriage brings problems in women’s life and deprives them of educational opportunities. He added that Haat VDC would be declared a model health VDC of the district for which the campaign has been run to end child marriage practices.
“We have prepared a strategy to put up a public notice to make public three generations of those who practice child marriages,” Kunwar shared. Despite a legal ban, the child marriages are still a norm in many rural places of Nepal.
