Gorkhabazar, Feb 16: A campaign has been put in place to develop five VDCs in Gorkha district environment-friendly to begin with under the Local Governance and Community Development Programme.
Of the total 31 municipalities and 60 VDCs situated in the 12 districts lying across Koshi and Gandaki catchment area, Manakamana, Deurali, Barpak, Simjung and Ghyachowk VDCs in Gorkha district have been chosen in the nascent stage of this campaign, shared Noor Raj Kadariya, Plan Office of the District Development Committee (DDC), Gorkha.
To achieve this objective, these VDCs have to fulfill the 300 index within three years as per the Environment-Friendly Local Development Programme- 2071, added Kadariya.
The government has allocated Rs 1.5 million each for one VDC for this purpose.
“This campaign is believed to alleviate poverty in the VDCs by constituting environment-friendly societies,” said Surya Mohan Adhikari, the Local Governance Expert in DDC, Gorkha.
