Khotang,14 Nov 2014: Interesting as it may sound at a mere hearing but a child centre in Khotang district is shut down following the marriage of its employee.
As Maina Rai, an assistant at the Panchkanya Bal Bikash Centre at Bopung-2 VDC in Khotang, got married and left behind her natal home, the Centre has been shut down since 10 months in her absence.
She was the only employee at the centre that has been providing education to the disadvantaged children.
The Management Committee of the Centre, after her marriage, had announced a vacancy to fill the vacant post, but the exam has itself been the bone of contention among the Committee, the District Education Office and the local stakeholders.
“There’s been a tremendous political pressure to the Committee for everyone wants to secure the vacant position for their respective candidates,” informed Raj Kumar Basnet, the founder of the Committee.
The filling of the vacant position has been a Herculean task to the Centre as neither the District Education Office nor the resource person are able to resume the closed Centre, reinstating a suitable candidate in the married Rai’s position.
Students studying in that Centre have been deprived of education since 10 months as the vacant positions continue to remain vacant.
