Saving Nepal’s children from growing up in prison
Kathmandu, October 12, 2017: BBC has listed the Child Right Activist Indira Rana Magar among the 100 most influential and inspirational women around the world this year.
47 years old Indira is the Founder of Prisoners Assistance Nepal that has been educating and providing safe childhood to prisoners’ children.
“In Nepal, young children are often kept with their mothers in prison. But after the age of five, thousands of them find a new life and education beyond bars in one of Indira Ranamagar’s homes,” BBC says about Magar.
Indira has spent 27 years helping prisoners and their children gain access to education, dignity and a safer childhood.
Earlier in 2014, Magar was nominated for the World’s Children Prize (WCP), which is also considered the Children’s Nobel Prize.
BBC 100 Women names 100 influential and inspirational women around the world every year. This year, the women on the list will be part of the 100 Women Challenge, tackling some of the biggest problems facing women around the world.
Last year, former living Goddess Chanira Bajracharya and record-breaking mountaineer Lhakpa Sherpa were successful to be in the coveted list of the 100 most influential and inspirational women around the world.
