Kathmandu, July 11, 2016: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has administered oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed Chief Justice Sushila Karki at a special program organised at the Rastrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas, today.
The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) on Sunday approved the name of Karki recommended by the Constitutional Council on April 10 for her appointment to the post. Karki is Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice.
Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Onsari Gharti, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Judges at Supreme Court, Chief Secretary, Chiefs of constitutional and security bodies and representatives of Nepal Bar Association, among others, were present on the occasion.
She has assumed office today itself.
