Kathmandu, Sept 19: Classes in private schools, the private engineering colleges under the Tribhuvan University and the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) have been totally disrupted today due to the school closure called by All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary), the student wing of the CPN-Maoist.

The student union has called for the school closure protest demanding adjustment of fees.
Although it was agreed in deference with the demand of the union and the Supreme Court order regarding making adjustment in the fees that the institutional educational institutions hiked on May 21 for the current fiscal year, that agreement was not followed, hence the decision to close the education institutions, ANNISU (Revolutionary)’s general secretary Ratna Dhakal said.

The Supreme Court has twice issued injunction not to enforce the increase in the tuition fees.

ANNISU (Revolutionary) has been carrying out a series of protest programmes as holding sit-ins, interaction, submitting memorandums since September 3 demanding implementation of all the agreements reached between the student union and the institutional educational bodies. In this connection, the student union locked the accounts sections of some 300 educational institutions throughout the country in September 16.

Today’s exam under the quarterly examinations schedule at these institutions has been deferred due to the protest, it is stated.
