COMMERCE MINISTER THAPA-PRESS MEET

Nepalgunj, September 1: Minister for Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa argued that the relief works for the flood victims in Banke district have been evacuated.

Speaking at a press meet in Nepalgunj today, Minister Thapa stated that the first phase of relief items, for instance food grains, clothes, tents and basic medicines and commodities have effectively reached to the flood victims.

As per the second phase programme, the government will evacuate the victims in a safer zone after Dashain festival.

Minister Thapa stated that he had carried out an onsite visit to four districts; Banke, Bardiya, Dang and Surkhet to perceive the relief providing works, how effectively it was reached to real victims. Moreover the visit was made according to the direction of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.

After portraying an onsite inspection at flood affected VDCs of these districts, Minister Thapa said that the ache of disaster would be turned in to normalcy with the help of generous people and organisations.

According to the statistics of Regional Administration Office (RAO) Surkhet, 131,747 people are affected by natural disasters in Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Surkhet, Jajarkot and Salyan districts.

In addition 110 people were killed, over 58 injured and 121 went missing in landslide and floods in these districts, said Raj Kumar Shrestha, associate administrator of the RAO.
