Kathmandu, December 27, 2016: Construction of an ultra-modern bus park is underway in Biratnagar. The existing bus park at ward no. 15 of Biratnagar sub-metropolitan city was demolished to construct a well-facility bus terminal.

“The construction of bus terminal has started with the loan assistance of Town Development Fund that amounts to Rs. 8, 47, 00, 700,” House Mapping branch engineer of Biratnagar sub-metropolitan city, Arjun Thapa told Setopati.

Gauri Parvati Nirman Sewa, Kathmandu is awarded the contract to build the bus terminal.  The agreement that reached with the municipality mentions the contractor has to complete constructing the bus terminal within 15 months.

Thapa further said that the bus park will also have two-storey terminal building.

He said that the building is being constructed to manage ticket counter, shopping center, waiting room, restaurant and baggage rooms for passengers.

The bus park will have a garden and a space to park 55 vehicles.

The ground floor of the bus terminal will have outdoor and indoor space and will have 8 ticket counters.  The bus park office will be constructed in the ground floor.

Thapa informed that restaurant, kitchen and baggage rooms will be constructed in the second floor of the terminal.

“We are preparing a draft on how to operate these rooms.”

Although the draft to build the bus park in Biratnagar was prepared six years ago, the project could not be materialized. However, the initiatives taken by Basket Font Project and local level too could not help to advance bus park building.

This time, the facility is being built with the joint effort of municipality and bus entrepreneurs under the Public-Private partnership (PPP) model.
