Construction work of drinking water processing center to be completed next month

Kathmandu: Construction of one of the two Melamchi Drinking Water Processing Centres in Sundarijal will be completed in January 2020.

Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee informed Ms. Bina Magar, Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation that the remaining work of the processing center is being completed. Another processing center has already been built and is also in operation.

Secretary of the Minister Mr. Madhav Belbase along with Minister Magar, Executive Director of Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, Mr. Tiresh Prasad Khatry, General Manager of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited, Mr. Milan Shakya visited the construction site at the construction site.

The team also inspected a tunnel built at Sundarjal with a water treatment center. Minister Magar directed the departmental heads to complete the construction of the second processing center on time. Both these processing plants are delivering a total of 170 million liters of water daily from Melamchi. Once the drinking water processed through the centers would reach Kathmandu only.

Executive Director Khatry said another processing will be constructed at the same place to process 340 million liters of water, including Yangri and Larkhekhola. “After the construction of the two centers, construction of another refinery will begin”-he said.
