Janakpurdham, Aug. 7: Consumers are at risk of epidemic as more pesticide is used in green vegetables put for sale in Lalbandi of Sarlahi district along the East- West Highway. As the District Agriculture Development Office has not given training on which and what kind of pesticides to use and more pesticide is being used, said a farmer of Hirapur, Kul Bahadur Tamang.
The pesticide was 99 percent in green vegetables, beans, bitter gourd, parbal and lauka in Lalbandi. The farmers keep for sale here and the vegetable trade is worth Rs. 20 million monthly, say agro experts.
Although chlordane, DDT, dietidron and andrin are banned in Nepal, they are sold openly, said experts. Such pesticides smuggled from India are used in green vegetables, said Jayadev Ghising of Agro Product Market Operation Committee Lalbandi.
