CREASION Announces the Tree of the Year Nepal 2019 Award Winners

Kathmandu, March 25, 2019: The winners for the 3rd Tree of the Year Nepal Photography Competition were announced by its organizer, CREASION in an award ceremony held in Nepal Tourism Board on 22nd March 2019.

The ceremony honored the stories of three talented and environmentally conscious photographers in the presence of Nisha Adhikari Malla, the Goodwill Ambassador of the competition.

This year, Rajib Kharel bagged the title of the winner and a cash prize of NRs. 35,000/- with his story of the Populus Ciliata tree that has survived for hundreds of years in the village of Mustang. Similarly, the titles of 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up with a cash prize of NRs. 25,000/- and NRs. 15,000/- respectively was awarded to Binita Karki and Sanju Raut. The top three winning photographs of Tree of the Year Nepal will now be competing at the Asian level. The 2019 Tree of the Year Nepal was powered by NIC Asia with additional support provided by Kathmandu Organics, Anand Engineering Consultant, Jyoti Bikash Bank and Photo Concern.

Started in 2011, The Tree of the Year photography competition was first organized in the Czech Republic with an objective to draw attention towards the significance of trees in the growing urban landscape. With the same objective, the Asian edition of the competition started in 2017 and Nepal has been winning the grand title of Asian Tree of Year both in 2017 and in 2018.

Last year, Ashin Poudel had received the first prize for his photograph titled ‘The Lone Survivor’.

This year the winner of the Asian Tree of the Year will be announced on 25th March. So, stay tuned to know which photograph becomes the Asian Tree of the Year 2019.
