Spain, November 21, 2016: After scoring the second of his three goals against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo fancied a change from his usual method of celebration.
Instead of performing his famous ‘woo’ jump, the Real Madrid forward crouched down and held his chin in a pose which closely resembled Auguste Rodin’s ‘The Thinker’ sculpture.
The internet immediately jumped on the pose, spawning thousands of memes mocking Ronaldo’s new celebration.
Photoshoppers from around the world weaved their magic to alter the Portuguese striker’s location to a toilet, a sumo wrestling ring and even sat on top of arch-rival Lionel Messi’s chest.
One meme placed Ronaldo next to Homer Simpson on a couch in Springfield while another situated the striker next to baby Jesus at the Nativity.
Ronaldo is no doubt something of a deity to Madrid supporters after his goal scoring exploits on Saturday.
The Portuguese forward dominated the final ever Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon, scoring all three goals as Real extended their lead at the top of La Liga to four points.
Atletico now trail their cross-city rivals by nine points and are all-but out of the race for the Spanish title after just 12 matches.
Barcelona, meanwhile, missed the chance to briefly take top spot in La Liga after stumbling to a 0-0 draw against nine-man Malaga.
Luis Enrique’s side dominated the match at the Nou Camp but could not find a way Malaga’s stubborn defence without Lionel Messi, who was ruled out of the match through illness, and the suspended Luis Suarez.
It is not yet clear if Ronaldo intends to continue his new celebration if he scores against his former club Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday.
