Damak, Feb 16: Damak of Jhapa district has been declared a plastic-free zone on Sunday. The Damak Municipality and Damak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) jointly declared the place as the plastic-free zone.

At an awareness assembly organised after the declaration of the plastic-free zone, Chief Whip of the CPN (UML), Agni Kharel, said the new constitution would ensure the people’s rights to get healthy environment under the fundamental rights.

The plastic should be completely prohibited for the environmental protection of the city and to decrease the ecological degradation, added Kharel.

Similarly, Executive Officer at the Damak Municipality, Yubraj Dahal, said that ban on the use of plastic was a compulsion for the development of the city and to protect the environment.

Likewise, campaigner of the Bagmati Clean-up Campaign Dr Raju Adhikari and President of the DCCI Prakash Prasain, among others, stressed the need for strictly implementing the decision.
