Biratnagar, Aug. 18: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr. Minendra Rijal, has said the country would get a federal democratic constitution on January 22, 2015.
Talking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport, today, Minister Rijal said the schedule of constitution writing process is in the final phase, so, the constitution would be promulgated in the slated time.
Minister Rijal, who is also the Spokesperson of the government, said the political parties are holding discussions to forge consensus on the forms of the governance, federalism, and other disputed issues appeared in the constitution writing process and bring the draft of the constitution by mid-September.
The Prime Minister might also intervene if the political parties failed to forge consensus in the contentious issues, Minister Rijal said.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has started talks with the political parties in and outside the Constituent Assembly (CA) from today regarding having the ownership of all in the new constitution, he said adding that the process of writing the draft of the constitution has reached the final phase, Minister Rijal said.
Responding a query of journalists, Minister Rijal said it would be clear who would be the next President, Vice-president, and Prime Minister once the country gets a new constitution.Nepali Congress leader Rijal said the Nepali Congress was committed to implement the seven-point agreement signed between the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), adding that if there were any weaknesses in the agreement it could be corrected.Minister Rijal has arrived in Biratnagar to participate in the 10th anniversary of the Udghosh Daily.
