Kathmandu, 27th January, 2015 : The meeting today of the Development Committee under the Legislature-Parliament held discussion on the progress of the directives it gave to the Ministry of Local Development and Ministry of Information and Communications.

 

The meeting drew the attention of the respective Ministries and bodies concerned to present their progress report and the status of implementation of the directive given by the committee.  The meeting directed the Ministries to name the focal points for the same in bodies concerned.

Committee chair Rabindra Adhikari said that the committee directed the bodies concerned for effective implementation of the directives as it was not found effective as per the expectation.

 

On the occasion, committee chair Adhikari directed the Information Ministry and bodies under it to prepare necessary policy and guidelines for infrastructure development to promote information technology in rural areas and the Rural Telecommunication Development Fund to provide international standards services.

Similarly, the committee directed the Local Development Ministry to intensify the activities to be run by local Development and Agriculture Road Division.

 

In the meeting, Minister for Information and Communications Dr Minendra Rijal said that the Ministry has prepared a Broad Brand policy to make internet services more effective in rural areas and has been forwarded the same to the Council of Ministers for approval.

 

Similarly, Minister Rijal urged the committee to encourage inter-Ministry coordination as information technology was related with different Ministries.  He said that the process is underway to merge Nepal Television and Radio Nepal into a public broadcasting service.

 

The Ministry is preparing to distribute the artist identity card through the Film Development Board, he said.

 

On the occasion, Acting Information secretary Sunil Bahadur Malla, Local Development secretary Som Lal Subedi, Nepal Telecommunications Authority Chair Digambar Jha, Nepal Telecom Executive Director Buddhi Acharya,  Rastriya Samchar Samiti Executive Chair Kul Chandra Wagle, Gorkhapatra Corporation General Manger Sushil Koirala, Nepal Television General Manger Laxman  Humagain, Radio Nepal Director Ashok Banskota and Press Council Nepal chair Borna Bahadur Karki presented the progress report and future plans of their respective offices.
