Kathmandu, Sept 28: The negotiation between the dialogue team of the major political parties and Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik chairmen on Monday ended on a positive note.
The dialogue team constituting of Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Mahesh Acharya, CPN (UML) Chief Whip Agni Kharel and UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha held meeting with TMLP Chairman Mahantha Thakur and Loktantrik Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar at latter’s residence.
The agitating parties have demanded withdrawal of cases against their cadres, calling back the Nepal Army and cost free treatment of the injured.
The three parties’ dialogue team called on the agitating side to return to negotiation immediately for resolving the outstanding disputes. The major parties told the agitating sides that many of their demands could be addressed through amendment of the new constitution, said UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Shrestha.
The Madhes-centric parties’ have been agitating for delineation of provincial borders, citizenship issue and the subject of proportionality and inclusiveness.
Earlier in the evening, Gachhadar held talks with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala among other senior Nepali Congress leaders, it is learnt. The three parties’ team will continue holding dialogue with the agitating parties on Tuesday.
