Darchula, Jan 15: The Darchula District Prison is found to be reeling under the sorry state.
An inspection team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday found the decrepit condition of the prison after its on-site monitoring visit to the district jail and police custody.
The monitoring inspection was undertaken as part of the objective of the constitutional human rights watchdog to recommend to the government for the reforms of police custody and prison across the country, said NHRC Commissioner Sudip Pathak.
Though the district prison has the capacity to accommodate 40 inmates including 25 male and 15 female now it is bearing 47 jailbirds including three women, he informed.
The jail constructed almost five years back has been found lacking other physical infrastructure beside deteriorating prison building, the monitoring team said.
